Reenactments

Battle of Monmouth Reenactment - This reenactment usually takes place the last weekend in June, but this year it will be June 18 - 19 due to the 225th Anniversary of the Battle of Springfield. This is a major two day reenactment. Here one can talk to suttlers who explain the role of women during the war, see medical procedures demonstrated from the war, get tours of the army camp, and of course witness two days of the battle. Monmouth was the longest battle of the Revolution and was fought in 90+ degree heat with extreme humidity. Many soldiers died from heat exhaustion. See Monmouth Battlefield State Park

225th Battle of Springfield - June 25 - 26. This is a special TWO day celebration of the Battle of Springfield and will consist of hundreds of American and British troops, as well as suttlers. The battle took place on June 23, 1780 when British troops invaded from Staten Island to Elizabeth(town) intending to capture Morristown by seizing the Hobart Gap in the Watchung Mountains (Today’s Route 24). They were confronted with significant, unanticipated resistance from American Continental and local Militia and were driven back to Staten Island. It was “The Final Invasion”, the British were never to fight another Revolutionary War Battle in New Jersey.
