Barnegat Light, located on the northern part of Long Beach Island, is just south of Barnegat Lighhouse and Barnegat Light State Park. The Barnegat Light Museum offers exhibits and information on the history of the area. Long Beach Island is a long, narrow, barrier island. Barnegat Light is famous for a Revolutionary War event known as the Long Beach Island Massacre. A plaque in Barnegat Light State Park commemorates the event and honors the 21 Americans who were killed by John Bacon and his fellow British sympathizers.
