Island Beach is at the southern tip of Barnegat Peninsula. It was at one time an island and every once in a while gets cut off by the winter storms. For a relaxing time - explore the nature trails around Island Beach State Park. You can see the Barnegat Lighthouse to the south, across the inlet, although there is no way of getting there from the park. Obviously there are no amusements or other artificial entertainment, Island Beach State Park is a mainly a wildlife sanctuary and nature preserve.
