Sea Girt Lighthouse
is a classic Victorian brick house-style lighthouse, located on Beacon
and Ocean Avenues. It was built to fill the 40 mile gap between Navesink and Barnegat Lighthouses
and to mark the location of the inlet.
As a way of distinguishing itself
from the other lighthouses in the area, Sea Girt's beacon turned
red for
two
seconds
out of
every
six.
The lighthouse was decommisioned in 1945 and has recently been reopened
to the public. The interior has been beautifully restored and furnished with
historical accuracy and depicts the life of the lighthouse keeper
and their family.
