The Sandy Hook bay offers excellent fishing year round with a large variety of fish. It starts to really get good from early spring and doesn't let up till the winter months.

Flounder is especially good around mid-April when they come out from their winter rest to feed. Particularly good spots to catch flounder include the Pump House near the Leonardoo Flats and at the mouth of the Shrewsbury River by Plum Island.

Also in mid-April the stripe bass start to appear. Then around the end of the month come the fluke, which lead up to the large numbers in July.

From Horseshoe Cove to the Bud Light is a great place for stripers during the summertime. During the same period, weakfish can be found around Navy Pier and Leonardo Marina.

October is a great month for striped bass. Flounder are also big from October to December.

You may rent boats and motors at Atlantic Highlands. There is a small boat ramp in the marina at Leonardo. There are larger facilities at the Atlantic Highlands Marina. Both require fees.
