City: Highlands County: Monmouth

Sandy Hook offers a lot more than just beaches. Three lighthouses are near by, including the oldest operating lighthouse in North America - Sandy Hook Lighthouse. There is Ft Hancock which served as the US Army proving grounds, bird watching, nature trails and much much more.

In addition to being part of the Gateway National Recreation Area, Sandy Hook also is part of the New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail.

During the summer make sure you get here before 10:30 or later in the evening, especially on weekends. Parking is limited and there are times when the rangers have to shut the gates. There is a nominal charge for parking.
