Regions of the Jersey Shore
Northern Jersey Shore Greater Atlantic City Southern Jersey Shore
The world famous Jersey Shore stretches 127 miles along the Atlantic Ocean and is made up of a series of barrier islands. Here you can enjoy a wide array of activities, such as climbing historic lighthouses, relaxing on the beach, kayating through a nature reserve, walking the boardwalks or gambling in the casinos of Atlantic City.

Search for your ideal Jersey Shore beach using our new interactive Jersey Shore Beach Guide.

Northern Jersey Shore

The Northern Jersey Shore Region includes Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The region offers a wide range of activities. The most northern section includes Keansburg, with it's amusement and water parks while in Ocean County you can find anything from boardwalks and amusement parks to the 3,002 acre Island Beach State Park. While there don't forget to look for Black Beard's tresure on Long Beach Island!

Greater Atlantic City

The Greater Atlantic City Shore Region is made up of Atlantic County and is famously known the world over for Atlantic City and the birth place of Monopoly.

Southern Jersey Shore

The Southern Jersey Shore Region includes Cape May and Cumberland Counties.

World famous Atlantic City, inspiration for the equally renowned boardgame Monopoly, includes over a dozen casinos. While Atlantic City may have had the world's first and most famous boardwalk, it is no longer the only boardwalk along the Jersey Shore.

Lighthouses

New Jersey has nine classic landbased lighthouses to explore, including the oldest operating lighthouse in North America - Sandy Hook Lighthouse (1764). Climb to the top of Barnegat Lighthouse or Cape May Lighthouse and take in the magnificent views, or take a trip the remote East Point Lighthouse on the shores of the Delaware Bay.

For some additional family fun and excitement, make sure you check out the boards at Pt Pleasant Beach, Seaside Heights, Ocean City and of course Wildwood, where every few feet is a pizzeria the rides are fast and furious and the seafood is right out of the ocean fresh.

Into nature, then nothing beats the coastal wilderness of Sandy Hook, Island Beach or Cape May Point. Go mansion hunting at Deal, Bay Head or Mantoloking. Climb the stairs of Barnegat, Cape May, Navesink and Sandy Hook lighthouses. And for a turn of the century experience - spend a weekend at a Victorian Bed & Breakfast in Cape May. The 127 miles of the Jersey Shore has something for everyone, whether it's fishing, crabbing, gambling or just plain relaxing.

Trivia:
New Jersey is the only state honored by two resorts at Walt Disney World in Florida. The Beach Club Resort is modeled after the Victorian shore towns along the Jersey Coast and includes the Cape May restaurant. The Boardwalk Resort across the lagoon from the Beach Club is modeled after the many boardwalks along the Jersey Shore, in particular Atlantic City. If the Jersey Shore is good enough for Walt Disney to recreate, isn't the REAL Jersey Shore even better for you and your family?

Crabbing

Crabbing and fishing on the Jersey Shore are obviously very popular. However, many people who have not grown up at the shore often ask "how do you crab?" or "where do you go crabbing?" With very little equipment you and your family can be cooking your next meal at the Jersey Shore with some hand caught blue tip crabs!

New Jersey has developed the New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail. This trail follows the shore from Perth Amboy down to Cape May and over to Delaware Memorial Bridge in Deepwater, New Jersey.

Help Keep th
e Beaches Clean

Remember, it is your responsibility to keep the Jersey Shore beautiful. The beaches include trash cans to put your trash for your convenience. When you leave trash on the beaches, it has a habit of washing out to sea. At the very least, this trash washes back up onto the shore. At the worst, it endangers the lives of the many sea creatures that call the waters off New Jersey their home. Whether you live in New Jersey, or are a visitor here, AboutNewJersey.com asks that you please pick up your trash. Help keep the Jersey Shore beautiful!
