Barnegat Lighthouse at Dusk

Barnegat Lighthouse (Old Barney) is located on the northern tip of Long Beach Island. It has stood watch over this area since 1850 and was first lit in 1859. The original was built in 1834 and was claimed by the sea in 1857.

You can climb the 217 stairs to get a spectacular view of the 31 acre Barnegat Lighthouse State Park and beyond. To the east is the Atlantic Ocean, to the north is the inlet and Island Beach State Park, to the west is Barnegat Bay.
