Princeton, originally known as Prince Town, is probably the most famous of any town or city in New Jersey. Internationally it's known for the world renowned Princeton University and historically for the Battle of Princeton.

Upper Pyne at the corner of
Nassau St & Witherspoon St.

It is also home to the NJ Governor's Mansion Drumthwacket. Princeton still has it's small town colonial charm, although traffic along Nassau St is becoming a headache.

Commonly referred to as just Princeton, it's actually TWO municipalities. Princeton Borough, which contains the historic area of Nassau St and Princeton Township which surrounds it.

gothic buildings on the
Princeton University campus.

For being such a relatively small and charming town, it actually has a huge selection of attractions, partially due to being home to Princeton University. There are several theaters, including McCarter Theater where you can see big name stars perform such as Lilly Tomlin, great restaurants, many shops in Palmer Square, museums, and of course Princeton Battlefield State Park where Washington gained his first victory over the British.

Princeton has a long illustrious history, as was stated Washington ganed his first victory over the British, it was one time capital of the US while the Continental Congress met at Nassua Hall and was the home for Einstein, Paul Robeson, Bebe Neuwirth, Christopher Reeve and many many more. Several movies have used Princeton as it's locaton, including the Oscar winning Ron Howard film "A Beautiful Mind" as well as "IQ" which starred Meg Ryan and Walter Mathau. Princeton is also immortalized in many F Scott Fitzgerald novels such as "This Side of Paradise".
