Come tour the most decorated, fastest, longest battleship in US naval history, the USS New Jersey.

Taking a trip to the Battleship New Jersey, also known as BB-62, offers a rich vision of United States History, along with the ability to experience the everyday life of the sailors that once served on the ship. What makes the Battleship New Jersey so special? The (BB-62) is the most decorated ship in the United States Navy. She has had an important role during the campaigns in the Pacific Ocean, during World War 2, the Korean War, Vietnam, and the Middle East.

Now de-activated from service, she serves as a museum, along with the option of a guided tour or self-tour throughout the ship.

Located in Camden, New Jersey, the Battleship New Jersey rests on the Delaware River, located at the Camden Waterfront. The Waterfront offers a number of fun attractions for all ages. Here’s a sample of the many attractions you can visit nearby: Adventure Aquarium, the Tweeter Center, Camden Children’s Garden, Wiggins Park and Marina, and much more!

When arriving at admissions for the Battleship New Jersey, try out the simulation ride they offer, it’s fun and appropriate for most ages. Purchasing tickets at admissions to board the Battleship New Jersey varies depending on your choice of Self-Guided Tour or Guided Tour. Please note that the Guided Tour can last a few hours. So, if you are part of an impatient crowd, you may want to choose the Self-Guided Tour. Note: children under six, Battleship New Jersey veterans, and all active military are free of charge.

Coming Aboard
When boarding the ship you will pass through memorial monuments for the Battleship New Jersey. After being granted permission to come-aboard, your tour will begin. Depending on the tour you chose, you will follow a colored-line on the floor that guides you through the ship. Venturing through out the ship can be quite a work-out, and if you have trouble climbing ladders, then visiting the Battleship New Jersey is most-likely not for you. There is a lot of walking onboard, and each level of the ship is reached by ladder-like-steps are used. As of now the Battleship New Jersey does not want to customize the ship for the disabled. Modification will damage the ship, and it is their wish to preserve the ship in its original state. The ship was in no-way built for the disabled; in fact this gave the sailors quite a project when moving injured soldiers through-out the ship. Unfortunately, the lack of modification means the tour is limited and not for everyone.

Onboard Camping
More than just a tour is offered on-board the battleship. Sleep-overs are also available. During the sleep-over you will “camp out” on the bunks that previous sailors used; you’ll have a personal locker to store your belongings; and when the group gets hungry, food is served in the mess hall. You will be able to eat in the same setting the sailors on-board the Battleship New Jersey once did. This is a great way to have some fun and experience the life of a sailor!

If you’re a sailor, interested in ships, advocate historian, or just interested... take a trip to Camden, NJ and visit the Battleship New Jersey.
