Population

New Jersey may be the most densely populated state in the nation and the US Census may have categorized all of New Jersey's 21 counties as urban, but those facts are rather deceiving. The population center of NJ extends pretty much from the northeast (the area across from NY), what is known as the Rt 1 Corridor (extends diagonally from the northeast to Trenton) and the Camden area (across from Philadelphia). In stark contrast to these population centers, the northwest and southern parts of New Jersey have large expanses of wilderness and is much less populated.

* The tables above can be misleading when compared to the map to the right. Remember, the tables cover total population, not population per square mile. A town with a large land area can obviously have a large population, while a town covering a small land area, can still have a high population density. There are many towns and cities in NJ which are only a little more than a square mile in size!
