Then again. for those who just want to have fun and excitement, there are the magnificent casino hotels in Atlantic City. For those rugged outdoor types, select one of the many campsites that can be found throughout New Jersey.

Bed & Breakfasts
Most B&Bs are located in Historic Cape May. This Victorian town is said to be the first resort in the United States and has the most Victorian architecture in the country. Although Cape May is famous for it's B&Bs, bed and breakfasts are found all along the Jersey Shore, from Ocean Grove in the north to Ocean City in the south. Bed and Breakfasts are perfect for that romantic, relaxing getaway. For that mountain vacation in the winter or fall, don't forget to check out the many in northwest NJ.

B&Bs get their names because the owners give you a bed (room) and serve you breakfast in the morning. While there you get to mingle with the other guests in the living room or on the porch and possibly make some life long friends. The owners of B&Bs are very knowledgeable about the area and can give you great advice on what to see and do. Staying at a Bed and Breakfast is like going back in time. Before the modern hotel, it was normal for people to open up their homes and rent out rooms to travelers. On AboutNewJersey.com you an find over 150 B&Bs to choose from.

Guest Houses
Guest Houses are a rarity, however there are still a few around. These are essentially B&B minus the breakfast. You still stay with the owner, often times with other guests, however rental homes are by far the most common.

Hotels and Motels
Ceasars Atlantic City at Night
Caesars and Trump Plaza Casino Resorts in Atlantic City
Let's be honest, not all hotels are created equal. There are the budget hotels such as Super 8 to the high end Marriot and Ramada. In Atlantic City you have the casino resorts where you never have to leave once you park your car (not recommended since there is so many other things to see). These hotels include restaurants, shopping, theaters and of course gambling. You can choose from the recently renovated and expanded Tropicana along the Boardwalk to the new Borgata located in the Marina district. For the unique vacation, stay at one of Wildwood's restored '50 hotels where Doo Wop rules. Here you stay at hotels with names such as StarLux and Blue Palms. In Cape May, stay at the grand Victorian Chalfonte Hotel or the great Congress Hall and take a trip back to the late 1800's.

Camping
For those outdoor types, there are numerous campsites to choose from. Here you can choose a place that allows you to park that RV or just pitch a tent, many even contain cabins. Most campgrounds are located in the northwest mountain area of NJ and throughout the Pine Barrens in the southern part of the state. Also, make sure you check out the state parks too. Many of the state parks also provide camping facilities.

Looking for a place to eat? Search the NJ Restaurant Guide
Now that you know what to do and where to stay, now it's time to figure out where to eat. AboutNewJersey.com contains over 800 restaurants to choose from. Check out a famous NJ diner or get NJ pizza at a real italian pizzeria (sorry no Pizza Hut or Dominoes allowed), or go all out and eat at a five star restaurant such as Rats in Hamilton. Don't forget the ethnic neighborhoods either for the best authentic food around. Make sure to make a stop in Newark's Ironbound district for great Portuguese cuisine For those in the mood for Italian, check out the Chambersburg section of Trenton.

Of course it goes without saying, if you are down the shore, you MUST eat at a seafood place. Both Pt Pleasant and Cape May have some of the largest commercial fishing fleets on the east coast and they provide fresh seafood to the restaurants in the area. When they say it's fresh off the boat, it's fresh off the boat. I should I know, I grew up in Pt Pleasant and we used to get our fish right off the docks when the boats came in.
